Putting the best interest of members first is in Bill Rempelos’ blood. After all, his grandmother was the president of a small credit union in Oregon, and his mother later served as vice president for the same organization. So, after attending college at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs to study business (finance, economics and entrepreneurship), Bill also embraced the credit union lifestyle.
During the pandemic, Bill has teamed up with colleague and fellow loan officer Keri Bills to focus on visiting with Elevations members in the Colorado Springs area. The two have hosted community give-back events at local coffee shops and met with members at parks and restaurants to help boost local business traffic during this challenging time.
He says the coffee shop pop-ups are a casual way to meet local people and be a community resource. “People order and when it comes time to pay, they get notified, ‘This is paid for by Keri and Bill from Elevations Credit Union. They’re sitting right over there. Have a good day.’ We’re not trying to be pushy; we’re just really giving back to the community that let us grow. It’s that give-first mentality,” Bill explains.
Finding the right career fit
Although it’s in his genes to work for a credit union, Bill says he chose Elevations specifically for its dedication to the local community and the goal of always putting members first.
“Elevations is such a well-oiled machine, which is something that benefits a member almost more than anything else. We look at everything from the aspect of the member. How does this make sense for the member? And does this? Is it something we can do, even if it doesn’t fit in the box?” Bill elaborates. “And we’re not asking, ‘Are we going to make money on this? Can we make money quickly on this?’ It’s: ‘How can we serve people?'”
Bill is available to members beyond receiving the keys to their home or completing a refinance. After you’ve spent 30 to 60 days under contract on a loan, you’ve signed up for 15, 20 or 30 years managing the loan. He says the best questions people ask are about what happens after the loan is secured. Who should they call with questions? How do they make their payments? What do they do if they have a problem?
At Elevations, you always have someone to call on for support after closing. Bill likes to make sure members know what to expect during the loan origination and servicing periods, as well as how to best communicate with one another for timely, effective support.
Tips for first-time homebuyers
When it comes to applying for a mortgage, Bill explains that you’re never alone and you always have a team at your fingertips to help understand the process.
“I tell all my first-time homebuyers that there are a lot of moving pieces, and they don’t need to absorb it all upfront,” he adds. Remember you have your real estate agent, homeowner’s insurance provider and property inspector for support, in addition to the team at Elevations.
He understands that the first call to a Loan Officer can be overwhelming, so Bill makes sure to ask questions to gauge each member’s level of knowledge and experience with mortgage origination. Then, he approaches things step-by-step.
“I always reassure them that I am on their team through the whole thing, and my goal is to get there with them,” Bill explains of the journey from initial fact-finding to closing day and beyond.

Fun in the sun and community
When he’s not helping homebuyers, you’ll find Bill spending time at the park with his Mastiff-Lab-Great Dane mix and Border Collie-Lab mix, or on the disc golf course. He and his wife have become quite good at the outdoor sport and can be found competing in disc golf tournaments across Colorado.
When it comes to his own home, Bill is deep into home remodeling and is happy to chat about the challenges and rewards of buying a fixer-upper with homebuyers. After growing up on a 70-acre coastal cattle ranch, Bill enjoys tackling do-it-yourself jobs around his property. His wife is fond of creating Pinterest boards to help guide their home updates.
Bill is also passionate about the startup community in Colorado Springs. He enjoys meeting with young companies to help them learn more about running a business and how to keep it financially healthy.
