Meet Chris, an Elevations Mortgage Loan Officer

At Elevations, our experienced Mortgage Loan Officers are here to help you navigate the homebuying process. Chris Coley has a successful track record of helping homebuyers with mortgage loans since 1999 and serves buyers along the Front Range. Learn more about why he chose to be a loan officer and his approach to lending.

What Chris Coley loves about being an Elevations Mortgage Loan Officer is building lasting relationships. “Working with borrowers, getting to know them, their family, what their goals are, and how you can tailor a mortgage to their means and goals — that’s rewarding,” he explains.

He kicked off his career as a successful co-owner of a title insurance company in Fort Collins, but after 10 years, found that he just wasn’t feeling fulfilled. “I’d have 30-minute coffee appointments every day, all day long with real estate agents, lenders and builders, and I just wasn’t getting to know anyone really well on a one-to-one level,” he says. All of that changed in 1999, when he switched careers to become a Mortgage Loan Officer. “I just closed a loan for a borrower I helped purchase a home for 20 years ago. It’s really rewarding working with them again,” he says and smiles.

When he starts working with people on a loan, Chris likes to take notes and simply listen. His goal is to understand what kind of payment is comfortable for them and make sure it fits into their overall financial goals and budget. “I like to answer all their questions and provide different loan scenarios that are a good fit for them,” he says. He chose to work at Elevations because the credit union mirrors his own values. “They’re really committed to doing the right thing for the member,” he explains.

Elevations’ commitment to volunteerism meant Chris could take time out to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. When Chris and his wife learned about hand sanitizer shortages in Colorado, they knew they had the right connections to make a difference. By bringing together friends in Fort Collins who own local distilleries, they were able to source large barrels and enough ethanol to make thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer. They delivered the bottles to nursing homes and UCHealth. “The next thing you know, we were delivering them to the local post office,” says Chris, after giving one to his mailman. Several Elevations team members joined the effort.

When he’s not working, Chris enjoys being outdoors, getting into the mountains and spending days bow hunting elk. He has three daughters and doing fun stuff with his family is by far his favorite pastime. He stepped in to help homeschool his youngest when Colorado schools switched to online learning. “For P.E., I’d create weekly field trips for my daughter. We’d go fishing, camping, hiking and just get outside,” he says.

Commitment to family, to community and to serving others through forming genuine relationships — meet Chris Coley.
