At Elevations, our experienced Mortgage Loan Officers are here to assist you as you navigate the homebuying process — from getting your finances in order to supporting you through the home inspection and closing. Get to know one of our excellent Mortgage Loan Officers, Jim Perkins.
How long have you been with Elevations and in lending?
I joined Elevations in February 2017. I have been in the mortgage lending industry since 1994 with various companies throughout my career. Although most of my 25-year career has been in northern Colorado, I managed a mortgage operation out of Florida for some time.
How would you define your role and what you do for homebuyers?
I assist clients in determining their short- and long-term goals as it pertains to their home and fit them with the best mortgage product for their needs. My role is to work hand in hand with the Realtor®/builder community to help all borrowers understand the process, their qualification and budget, and in the end, get them into their new home.
Which location do you work out of, and what area do you serve?
I work out of the Elevations Fort Collins Midtown Branch and serve mostly the northern Colorado market in Larimer, Weld, Morgan and Boulder counties.
How and why did you get into this field? Why are you passionate about it?
I have always had an attraction to real estate, and my ex-mother-in-law, who is a Real Estate Agent in Loveland, led me toward this profession. I started my finance career with a company called American General Finance that assisted individuals with financing retail-type items. Once I learned that we could use 2nd mortgages to pay off debt and get better rates for the clients, I became the leading home equity mortgage provider in the company and learned how exciting mortgages could be.
What do you like about mortgage lending?
There’s never a dull day, as no one client is ever the same. Additionally, because mortgages have many moving parts, I manage so many aspects of the transaction and get to use my analytical skills to achieve the desired result.
What sets Elevations and you apart from other financial institutions when someone is getting a mortgage?
Our brand, community involvement, experience, out-of-the-box thinking and ability to follow up on promises sets us apart at Elevations. Additionally, I always advise Realtors® that when they are working, I am working … no matter what day or time it is.
Where did you grow up?
Being the son of an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA, I lived in many different locations including Puerto Rico, Texas and Georgia. Still, the majority of my life was here in Colorado.
Where did you go to school?
I went to Lyons High School, the Army National Guard and Colorado State University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in economics.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love being with my family. Outside of that, I enjoy mountain biking, motorcycles (dirt and street), skiing, working out, flag football and hiking. I also enjoy working on various projects around the house, as I enjoy building things.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
DC Oaks Brewhouse and Eatery has a good atmosphere, delicious food and tasty margaritas.
