Is it time to move, purchase an investment property or restructure your current mortgage? Keri Bills from the Mortgage Team at Elevations Credit Union can help you find the perfect loan for your new property or refinance. Keri has served the home loan needs of Elevations members since October of 2020.
Whether helping members purchase their first home or get into a better financial situation with a refinance, Mortgage Loan Officer Keri Bills is ready for the challenge. “I just love being a part of people’s journey in the homebuying experience,” she explains. “It’s heartwarming.”
When you first chat with Keri, you’ll realize there’s so much more to the mortgage process than numbers and paperwork. She likes to determine members’ personal and financial goals when structuring a loan.
She notes that refinances can help current homeowners better balance their monthly expenses and free up funds to finally plan that vacation or upgrade their vehicle. She says parents have also tackled refinances to start funneling money into college savings plans for their children.
Free education for all homebuyers
ce piece of the mortgage process that Keri enjoys most is teaching members about their options and what to expect during the loan process. You might recognize her from one of the first-time homebuyer seminars she hosts for Elevations and other organizations in the area. She enjoys tackling members’ questions and offering tips to prepare for a home loan.
She says she’s received calls over a year after working together, and she’s often moved to tears. “They take the advice, and then they put it into action. And you know, within six months, they could buy house. It’s just awesome,” she adds.
If you’re interested in attending a first-time homebuyer seminar or any of the other free financial wellness classes Elevations offers, you can view the schedule here. During the pandemic, all courses are being held virtually so you can participate from the comfort of home.
It’s never too late to consider becoming a homeowner, according to Keri. “I had a retired couple just purchase their first home. They’ve always rented and never really thought about it. And then their kids are like, ‘You should buy a home.’ It’s not just young families who experience the excitement of the homebuying process for the first time. It’s just so fun.”
A peek inside the process
As a loan officer who focuses on origination, Keri explains that she’s involved in the mortgage process from start to finish. Once you choose to collaborate with her, you’ll also meet her assistant Jessica (who has a background in title work and closings) and work together as a team to get things organized.
If needed, Keri is happy to loop in other professionals at Elevations to make the process more efficient and helpful. For example, if you need to prepare a down payment for a future home purchase, she can introduce you to one of the CFS* Wealth Management Advisors at Elevations and keep everything within the Elevations family.
Keri says she’s available to members throughout the entire process for calls, emails or visits. And, she’s happy to join you at the closing table to help celebrate your new home or refinance. Rest assured, you will have someone familiar with your journey available each day. “I want to ensure people have peace of mind all the way through,” she comments.
Keri has specifically worked in the mortgage industry with credit unions since 2004. Over the years, her experience has ranged from loan origination and home equity loans to consumer loans and mortgage refinances. She is currently introducing residents of Colorado Springs to Elevations and their home loan offerings.
New to the Elevations Mortgage Team, Keri is enjoying her time at Elevations and admires the respect that flows among staff members and the connections the organization has to the community. “Our CEO is just a solid leader. He genuinely cares. We are his family, the members and his employees. He strives every day to ensure that he’s building an organization that is meeting the needs of everybody, the staff and each member that walks through the door. So, it’s fun to be a part of that.”
Family, fur babies and outdoor fun
Keri and her fiancé are raising their family in Colorado Springs. Their oldest is attending nursing school in Florida and their youngest is in 8th grade. They are also parents to a cat and three dogs.
During their free time, the family enjoys hiking and exploring the beautiful trails and lake in their neighborhood, which is a mere 15 minutes from Garden of the Gods. Keri also enjoys reading and snapping pictures of her pets.
