Meet Kevin, an Elevations Business Banking Relationship Manager

The business banking team at Elevations serves businesses across Colorado’s Front Range. Our team provides a consultative approach to help you realize long-term success for your business. Get to know Kevin Baughman, who has been a Business Banking Relationship Manager at Elevations for over two years.

How long have you been with Elevations?

I came to Elevations in August 2017, right before business banking launched. It was a hectic time but also a lot of fun. It was exciting to see how appreciative our members were that we were giving them a financial product they needed and wanted. Currently, I have an office in our Boulder Downtown Branch and serve the Boulder market.

What is your banking experience?

I’ve been in banking going on 16 years, and business banking specifically for over 10 years now. I started as a teller and worked my way up.

How would you define your role and what you do for business banking members?

My title is Business Banking Relationship Manager, and I believe the emphasis is on the “relationship.” We take the time to educate members about our services and products, and how they can do things differently to improve their business on a day-to-day basis. By doing this, we build strong relationships with our members.

How and why did you get into this field? Why are you passionate about it?

When I was a personal banker, the part I enjoyed most was the time I spent helping people with small businesses and watching them grow. That’s when I knew Business Banking was my passion. I have had businesses I work with go from their garage to multimillion-dollar properties. Being a part of that growth has been fun and rewarding. Recently, working with nonprofits has become my niche. Helping our nonprofit members has made me want to continue in business banking.

What sets Elevations and you apart from other banks and bankers?

I think everyone at Elevations truly cares about our members; they are our number one priority. We gear everything towards our business members and taking care of them. I will go above and beyond to help them no matter where they are in their business cycle.

Do you have any advice to businesses selecting a financial institution?

Yes — don’t always look for the bank with the lowest fees or highest rates on their bank accounts. The financial institution may have low fees, but you could get terrible service. Get to know the banker and financial institution you’ll be working with. You want to focus on the relationship you will build with that bank or credit union.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Pennsylvania, but my family moved to Colorado when I was 6. I grew up in southeast Aurora. I went to Smoky Hill High School and got into banking right out of high school.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I teach and train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve done that for over 10 years. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches people how to become better versions of themselves and has helped me in all aspects of life. That’s why I love it so much. I also own a very small BBQ catering business. I love BBQ and especially Texas-style BBQ. I started BBQing in the backyard with my brother in law, and the business grew from that. We’ve been catering small events for family and friends for over five years.

What’s your favorite local nonprofit?

I have a lot of experience working with a lot of nonprofits. Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) is one I really like. They do a lot of great work around domestic violence and provide support for victims in our community. Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA) is another organization I admire. They support families in need, but they don’t offer handouts — it’s a hand up. They give people a chance to make their lives better. I try to champion these and other fantastic area nonprofits in the community, attend their fundraising events, and volunteer when I can. I also really enjoy volunteering with Meals on Wheels through Elevations.

What is at the top of your bucket list?

I don’t keep a bucket list, but I would like to travel to Europe or go to Japan.
