Education is key to the success of our communities. A rising tide raises all ships. Education equals knowledge, knowledge equals power. We’ve all heard these popular adages.
Here’s a tidbit you might not have heard: In 2015, the U.S. Department of Education announced that student loan debt had for the first time in history exceeded consumer debt in the U.S. That’s epic, and it’s also a commentary on the state of higher education.
No one debates the critical importance of education at all levels. It does indeed yield greatly for society. That said, the burden that it creates on the individual can be daunting, so much so that the value of higher education has come into question.
Individuals with limited resources might actually feel that higher education is simply out of reach. Ask most students what keeps them up at night and you’ll hear something about the cost of higher education.
This means that at no other time in history has scholarship support been more important. You can rest assured that both Elevations Credit Union and Elevations Foundation are solidly committed to scholarships. Because of you, we have provided nearly $830,000 in scholarships for higher education in the last 5 years.
Visit the Elevations website to learn more about our scholarship initiatives and how you can support them. And mark May 25th on your calendar for Elevations Foundation’s annual meeting: A Celebration of Community. Always an endearing evening, this year you’ll hear about the state of scholarship in Colorado, learn about an innovative scholarship initiative in the Poudre School District and have the opportunity to meet our scholars. It’s a wonderful evening that will make you proud to be an Elevations member.
