When you’re ready to improve your financial health, the Wealth Management Advisors through CUSO Financial Services, LP (“CFS*”) at Elevations Credit Union can assist. Learn more about DeWayne Scott, and how he helps Elevations members at the Louisville, Lafayette and Broomfield/Westminster branches achieve their savings and investing goals.
As a full-service financial advisor, DeWayne Scott helps individuals and families retain and grow their wealth, from retirement planning to stock market investing. He likes to refer to himself as a “relationship manager” because a secure wealth management partnership is built on honest, open conversations and trust.
DeWayne guides Elevations members of all ages with financial planning, from young couples and ambitious singles to upcoming retirees. “I love teaching anybody that I can about the importance of starting a financial journey early,” he explains. “It turns out that a lot of the people I work with become like extended family.”
An Individual Approach to Investing
When members first sit down with DeWayne, they may not crunch numbers or look at interest rates. Instead, he helps members by educating them on their options, listening to their goals and discovering what type of partnership works best for them. He’s mindful of not overwhelming members at the first meeting. Rather, he establishes a foundation that nurtures a disciplined method of investing by learning the member’s history with financial planning and daily spending.
“My best advice to anybody looking for an advisor is to come in open-minded and ready to share what’s going on in any facet of your life,” he says. From there, you can work together to create a financial roadmap that takes into consideration your current situation as well as your dreams.
“The human interaction and the way we give you world-class service is going to make you want to do business with us and keep coming back,” he explains of working with a CFS* Wealth Management Advisor at Elevations.
DeWayne joined the CFS* Wealth Management Team at Elevations in July 2020. Before that, he worked as a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Steamboat Springs.
Financial Planning Tips You Can Use Today
It’s no secret that most people could use a little help fine-tuning their savings habits or checking in on their retirement plans. DeWayne says before seeking the assistance of a financial advisor, it’s a good idea to establish an emergency fund. Then, you can have peace of mind investing money because you know you won’t need to tap into it for daily living.
DeWayne also explains that Elevations offers a variety of complimentary seminars to educate members on how to be financially responsible and share options to explore with a financial advisor, should you decide to go that route. He says it all depends on where you are in your financial journey. Some members have learned good investment tactics early on from their families or school and simply need a little guidance and updates on current options. Others are just discovering how to save and invest.
If you’ve experienced trouble with credit or debt in the past, Elevations also has a free financial counseling resource called GreenPath** to help members get back on track with their finances.
Soon, a Move and a Second Baby
On a personal note, DeWayne has several exciting milestones coming up in 2021. In February, he and his wife will close on a house they built. And in April, they’re excited to welcome their second son to the family. He will likely be wearing a Chicago Bears jersey his first week home, as DeWayne is an avid football fan and former three-year starting linebacker at Wayne State College in Nebraska.
During the pandemic, the family has been experimenting with using a smoker to make delicious home-cooked meats. They’re also making plans for their favorite pastime, camping.
“This summer, we’re looking to find good camping spots here on the Front Range and in the Estes Park and Boulder area. We’re used to being out in Steamboat and finding the little gems out there,” DeWayne adds.
When camping, the family enjoys going fishing, admiring nature and cooking outdoors. “We’ll take big steaks and cook on a cast iron pan over the fire. That’s always a must-do. And for some reason, a nice ribeye tastes way better when you’re out in the wilderness than it does when you’re sitting at home at the dinner table,” he laughs.
