Meet Elevations Foundation Grantee Growing Gardens

Elevations Foundation is proud to support Boulder County-based nonprofit Growing Gardens through its Community Grants program. Watch the video below to learn about Growing Gardens’ Cultiva Youth Project and how it is impacting the lives of children in Boulder County.

Growing Gardens was established when it took on a long-term lease of 11 acres from Long’s Gardens. The Cultiva Youth Project was established the following year as a pilot project and is now offered in both Longmont and Boulder. The program participants work 10-15 hours per week each summer tending to crops and organizing CSA shares. Ages of Cultiva participants range from 12-19. The Farm Crew and Junior Farm Crew, as they are called, receive a stipend for their work during the season. They also receive an in-depth education on farming, a sense of responsibility and sense of accomplishment when their crops are harvested.

In addition to the Cultiva Youth Project, Growing Gardens offers community classes such as Beekeeping and Fall Foodie Classes. They also offer a gardening program for children ages 3 – 11 called Children’s Peace Garden. This program offers children the opportunity to learn about the source of the food they eat, environmental stewardship and the importance of biodiversity.

With the help of its members and the community, Elevations Credit Union and the Elevations Foundation recently raised $4,000 for the Cultiva Youth Project by hosting Elevations AppleFest at YA YA Farm & Orchard. On Oct. 13, over 175 people attended this fun fall event, which featured family-friendly activities like hay rides, barbeque from GreensPoint BBQ and live bluegrass by Stirrup Trouble. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Cultiva Youth Program. Just as Cultiva connects teens to agriculture and whole foods, we strive to connect our community to important nonprofits such as this.

Please consider supporting Elevations Foundation as we continue to help the local nonprofits that make our community such a special place.
