Meet Melissa, an Elevations Mortgage Loan Officer

At Elevations, our experienced Mortgage Loan Officers are here to help you navigate the homebuying process. One of our excellent Mortgage Loan Officers, Melissa Cotton, has experience in every role of real estate transactions, from real estate agent to lending support/operations and now as a Mortgage Loan Officer.

How long have you been with Elevations?

I’ve been with Elevations for two and a half years.

How did you get into lending?

It’s a funny story. I started as a receptionist for a local mortgage broker, and from there, I went into processing and operations before managing a title company for a couple of years. I enjoyed all aspects of real estate transactions, so I just stayed.

What is your experience?

I’ve been in the mortgage and real estate business for about 23 years. The majority of that time has been in lending, both in operations and origination. I worked for Colonial Savings for 11 years and Premier Mortgage Group a few years as well. I also had my real estate license for a couple of years. I’ve closed thousands of transactions and, at some point or another, played a part on every side of the transaction.

How would you define your role and what you do for people buying a home?

With my background, my goal is to help people understand the homebuying process. I bought my first home when I was 20, and I remember how overwhelmed I was. I want people to feel excited about the investment they are making. I strive to find the right mortgage program to fit the member’s long-term and short-term needs and goals.

Where did you grow up?

I have lived in this area my whole life. I was born in Boulder and grew up in Lafayette.

Which areas do you serve?

I currently split my time between the Diagonal branch in Boulder and the Broomfield branch. I’m native to Boulder County, but I am happy to serve the whole Denver Metro and Front Range areas.

What sets Elevations apart from other financial institutions when someone is getting a mortgage?

I honestly feel after all the time I have spent in lending that Elevations is the best place I have ever worked. When I got into loan origination, I wanted to work for a company with the same goals and values as me. Elevations provides service that can’t be beaten. It’s not just about closing transactions — it’s about building relationships that last a lifetime.

Do you have any advice to consumers selecting a financial institution for a mortgage?

Work with someone you know, like and trust — someone who has your best interest in mind through the whole transaction.

What is your favorite local nonprofit?

I have been involved with Voices for Children Boulder County CASA, Attention Homes and Community Food Share. I was an active CASA, and I like to support their cause for abused and neglected children. I think there is a huge need for that in our community.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to spend time with my family traveling, trail running, biking, snowboarding, and enjoying the beautiful outdoor lifestyle that Colorado has to offer.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

I tend to stick to my Niwot area restaurants, like 1914 House. I get their pecan-crusted trout; it’s delicious.

What do you sing at karaoke night?

I love karaoke, so I like to sing lots of songs! I grew up on all kinds of music, but I’m a die-hard Smokey Robinson fan.

If you’re looking for someone to help liven up karaoke night or support you as you navigate buying your next home and want to speak with Melissa, NMLS #469793, you can call her at (720) 309-7008 or email her at melissa.cotton@elevationscu.com.
