Meet Elevations Foundation Grantee WOW! Children’s Museum

Did you know Elevations Foundation has been supporting terrific local nonprofits through its community grants program since 2010? One of these nonprofits is Lafayette-based WOW! Children’s Museum, an Elevations Foundation grantee since 2014.

WOW! Children’s Museum has proudly been engaging families throughout Boulder County in educational, hands-on experiences that connect curiosity, creativity and discovery for over 20 years. Wow! welcomed over 91,000 visitors last year – a new record for the Museum.

At the Museum children can use their imaginations to captain a pirate ship and sail the Seven Seas. They can create one-of-a-kind masterpieces in the newly renovated ArtSpace, practice skills such as cooperation and empathy as they take turns caring for each other in the Colorado Kids Clinic and problem solve while building and racing different sized cars down a giant track at the Make it Go! exhibit. All of the Museum’s exhibits are designed to complement Colorado Early Learning Standards and provide an environment that gives young children the opportunity to practice the skills they will need to succeed in school and in life.

The Museum continually looks for ways to update exhibits to ensure they align with these standards and the Museum’s Learning Framework. In addition to updating current exhibits, a new exhibit, Forest of Light, opened in June. In the Forest of Light, children of all ages and abilities can explore the aspen lined forest, gaze at constellations and uncover many new tactile and sensory-friendly experiences. The Forest of Light helped kick off new extended learning opportunities called, WOW! at Home. WOW! at Home provides “try it at home” ideas for adults and children to continue exploring a topic they’ve been introduced to at the Museum. For example, after visiting the Forest of Light you can find instructions on how to make your own light jar or stargazing box.

One hundred percent of the Museum exhibit updates are funded by contributions from organizations and community members, and WOW! is grateful for this support. To learn more about WOW! Children’s Museum, please visit their website.
